DSP Systems supports both Xilinx and Altara FPGA devices including the new Virtex-II and Virtex-II Pro families from Xilinx and the Stratix-II and Cyclone-II families from Altera as well as most manufacturers PLDs. DSP Systems have hundreds of designs and products in use by a number of the top research, industrial, military, and commercial organizations around the world.
FPGAs are replacing processors and their associated
peripheral components in many new designs and applications
for a variety of reasons but primarily because of their extreme-high performance
and flexibility. This is particularly true now that FPGAs
have integrated gigabit serial communications, memory
interfaces, immersed processors, and a wide range of available core firmware
modules. DSP Systems worked with Boeing to
integrate a coupled processor and FPGA component into the AWAC aircraft in 1991
and since then we have developed many innovative designs using FPGAs or
processor and FPGA combinations.
Many of our customers come to us with an idea sketched on
a sheet of paper or two and ask us to develop a product
or system based on their ideas. In this case DSP Systems designs and
produces the product and works with that customer to develop
firmware that will do exactly what they need. In the end, we deliver a
complete product with schematics, annotated firmware source, test
procedures and code, and manuals. Other customers may already have a
detailed description of what they need so DSP Systems designs and produces a
board based on the customers specific needs. Sometimes the customer will
supply the final application firmware but often we develop the firmware to their
specifications.
